Christine Gilsinan has been an attorney for over 30 years. For 25 of those years, she has concentrated her practice in estate planning, tax, and real estate. The expansion of her practice from estate planning, tax, and real estate to include elder law (long term care planning, asset preservation, public benefits for the elderly) came gradually, as her clients began to bring their parents' concerns to her attention. Christine is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and is a Certified Elder Law Attorney.
Achieving ABA approved certification as a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) from the National Elder Law Foundation is a noteworthy accomplishment. Among the requirements are handling elder law cases (at least 60 in three years preceding application) involving such issues as housing, retirement assets, taxation, nursing home placement, and disability planning; successfully securing government services for clients; completing a course of study; and passing a full day examination on the law affecting those issues. Currently (Winter, 2006), there are only 4 or 5 CELAs with offices in the St. Louis area, and 450 nationwide. Christine is also a member of the Advisors Program of TIAA-CREF.
In addition to her law practice, Christine is co-chair of the Elder Law Committee of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She speaks about elder law and estate planning issues to the public and writes and presents programs to other attorneys.
Christine renders services in the following areas:
- Estate Planning
- Cohabitation and Pre and Post Nuptial Agreements
- Long Term Care Planning
- Comprehensive Estate and Medicaid Planning Evaluations
- Guardianship and Conservatorship Services
- Planning for People with Disabilities
- Planning for Parents of Children with Disabilities
